Affiliate Scheme Guide

by S. Jax

What is an affiliate scheme?

An affiliate scheme is a marketing tool used by companies and websites to generate sales. It has a fare system where by the advertiser (or affiliate) is paid by the company for advertising space based on the affiliate's performance.

Some company’s schemes, pay per click. This means that for every visitor who click through from the affiliate website to the company’s website generates a click and so generates revenue. 'Pay per Click' as these schemes are known, usually only offer a minimal amount of money per click. This is because only a small percentage of clicks that you send to them will turn into a sale. Therefore they pay you for non-profitable clicks, and to address the balance they do not offer a reward for sales. However if you can drive a large amount of regular traffic to the pay per click link, the clicks soon add up - The 'look after the pennies' theory.

Other affiliate schemes work on a commission basis, where by you get paid a fixed percentage for each for each sale you generate. The percentage offered by the company will be clearly stated upon joining the affiliate scheme so you know what rate to expect.

These schemes use cookies. Your referred visitor may not 'buy' on the day that they first click through to the company’s website. Especially if it's a large or costly purchase that they wish to make, they may return to the website a week or a month later, Not via your affiliate link. Obviously this would be most frustrating because you would loose your cut of the sale. This is why cookies are used. They store information on the visitors PC, so when they return to a website and make a purchase, the referrer is recognised and the affiliate gets their percentage of the sale.

Cookies have varying lengths, some lasting only a week, where others last 9999 days. This information will be highlighted upon joining the affiliate scheme. However, there are people who object to having information stored on their computer and occasionally remove all of the cookies, but that doesn't mean cookies can not be added again.

With both pay per click and commission based affiliate schemes there is generally a payment threshold. This means that you must generate sales, clicks or leads up to a set monetary value before you payment is sent to you. This is to reduce bank and admin charges for the company or website, it also acts as a carrot for the affiliates to promote and perform and produce those all-important sales. The payment threshold is usually around £20 and £25.

If your threshold is £25 and your cut of say - every dating website membership is 50p you will need to generate 50 individual membership subscribers. This doesn't sound like an unreasonable figure. However, not every visitor who clicks on the link will sign up, they are instead just browsing. Let's say optimistically that 50% of the traffic that you drive to the dating website joins up. That means you have to send 100 visitors to the website before you see the fruits of your labour.

There are Managed Affiliate Schemes where by an affiliate can join a number of affiliate schemes. The sales, leads and clicks form all the affiliate schemes are all combined to contribute to the total making it quicker and easier to reach your threshold because you have a number of interests to promote. This also means you are likely to receive payments more frequently. It also increases the odds of your links being clicked because if you now have 3 companies to advertise, you have potentially triples the chance of showing your visitor something that interests them, you therefore reach your payment threshold sooner.

All affiliate schemes are free to join, you are effectively providing the company or website a service (advertising) for which they pay you. You wouldn't expect to have to have to pay your boss for your job position would you?

Once signed up to an affiliate scheme the affiliate is under no obligation at all. If you no longer wish to advertise a particular company or website any longer you are free to leave the affiliate scheme. However, if the website you are leaving is an independent affiliate scheme, and your generates sales total is below the payment threshold, you will forfeit this revenue. This is not the case with managed affiliate schemes. Your commission will stay 'banked' and can be built up to meet the payment threshold from commission sales from other affiliate schemes you have joined within the managed domain.

"If you own a website and want to make money then join our affiliate scheme, sit back and wait for the cheques to flood in..."

It does sound as easy as that doesn't it? Add some code and fancy banners and Robert is your mother’s brother!

Only it's not that simple. If advertising were a doddle, companies wouldn't need you to advertise for them.

An Ordinary Day in the Life of an Affiliate Marketer

by Kurt Naulaerts

The internet has made it so much easier when it comes to being a member in the business of affiliate marketing. In fact, when compared to times when others had to use only the telephone to get their hands on updates and other such information, today’s methods are so much more easier and effective.

Now, thinking of this technology and that an affiliate marketer has the ability to work directly from home, a day in their lives may go a little something like this…

Ok, so I woke up this morning, at my breakfast, and went straight to work. First thing first, right, I turned on my computer to see just what the latest happenings are, in regards to any statistics and updates that of course I must keep track of regularly to keep my business running smoothly.

My website just is not cutting the mustard here, so I think today I am going to revise it. As you and I both know, if the website is not well-designed, I can never expect for my visitors to sign up for my service. So that is something I need to do in order to raise my rates of conversion.

Just a few tweaks here and there, ok I am done, on to the next task. Ok, I want to attract more people to join my affiliate program, so I need to promote it, and submit to directories. This will ensure that people are seeing my listings and could even increase my traffic.

Ok, bear with me here, now is the time in my day when I take a close and careful look at all sales I am currently getting from my affiliates. This takes a good amount of time because I must be both accurate and objective about it. This means tracking down orders via email and telephone. Check on any new clients that may be looking into my products and writing down the contact information they provided for later use.

Now onto my resources. You see I have an abundance of sample recommendations, button ads, banner ads, and advertisements I need to hand out. This helps me land more sales, which of course is important in my line of work, not to mention that is keeps my business accessible and visible at the same time.

Oh wait, I almost forgot, how silly of me. A few visitors sent me emails asking some questions about my products, so I must answer these write away. If I fail to answer them quickly or not at all, I could lose a potential customer really fast. I always have to remember that I must put customers and potential customers first. Of course, some are patient, but most want answers the minute the send them, so it is important that I show them just how professional I am and respond right away.

I forgot to mention that I logged onto my saved chat room at the beginning of the morning, see how hectic the life of an affiliate marketer can be. The chat room keeps in touch with other affiliates just like me, which use the same type of affiliate program I use. This is a great way to share ideas and testimonies about product promotion. Now, I have been an affiliate marketer for a long time, years really. However, I am always learning new things from other affiliate marketers. Furthermore, this chat room does wonders, because you never know who is listening it and may become interested, which means referrals!

Today is Friday and on Monday, I updated my ezine and newsletter, therefore, I need to look into the latest news on the market today. This way when the next publication comes out, this will be the topic of interest.

Newsletters and ezines are extremely important to my business; this is how I introduce all my latest products and services. I offer my customers sales and promotions that they may be interested in. Of course, I have a deadline I must meet, so this is a consistent process as well.

Now for those who help me along the way with my sales and promotions, I usually make mention of the person, their website, and just what they have done to fit the pieces of this puzzle together.

Now I have to write out some recommendations because I have had request from some people wanting sources that are credible for these products. I should also make a quick visit to a few websites and forums that have people just coming apart at the seams wanting to get into the world of affiliate marketing. Just a few comments here and there on how to become a successful affiliate. This does three specific things for my business, first I get to help others who are interested, second I get to promote my products, and third I may just get a referral. It works all the way around.

Oh my, look at the time, I missed lunch and dinner. Oh well, it is time for bed now.

It may not be all done in one day; however, you have the general idea of just what it is like to be a dedicated affiliate marketer for one day.

Why Thousand Now Play Affiliate Marketing Even If They Thought They Couldn't

by Mark Tern

Let’s see the 6 reasons that make affiliate marketing the best way to start making money at home. This is the simplest way to start your own online business. Many people are already doing it.

The product is already available and you don’t have to spend time or money to build it. The product is in fact developed by the merchant; your duty is just to find as many prospects as possible, such that some of them will possibly buy.

There are thousands of products and services you can choose from. If you have already a website you can find a product in line with your website topic. If you don’t have yet a website, just select a niche which interests you and find a suitable product.

There are no merchant headaches, just prospects: i.e. you don’t have to deal with administrative trivial tasks; just concentrate on marketing.

You do not have to worry about inventory, order processing and product shipping, which are in charge of the merchant.

In affiliate marketing, your responsibility is simply to find prospects for the merchant. You have to find a way to drive traffic to the merchant site using your link with embedded a special code the merchant has given you. If people go the merchant web site with your link and buy, then you have the commission.

The internet is global and every day many more people start buying products on the net. So even if there are many affiliate marketers and there is great competition, you can potentially find thousands of prospects.

What you can’t escape is to learn traffic strategies to find your way into this marketing ocean.

There are no production costs except than for web hosting, autoresponder and advertising.

Further, none of these is mandatory (but they are surely needed if you want much greater chances of success): you can rely on free services and free advertising. This is possible but will make your affiliate marketing life more difficult.

This is because the product is already there and the affiliate programs are free to join.

So: the game is to find as many lead as possible that are really interested in the product you are promoting; they will probably buy it and, again, you get your commission.

How do you find so many lead? With traffic, i.e. people coming to your site through paid advertising or free traffic.

If you have already a website, affiliate marketing is a no brainer for you, as you are already paying for web hosting and maybe you have some traffic. In that case put simply your affiliate link to a relevant product in your website and you are done. In this case it won't cost you a dime and your only risk is to make some money...

No sales experience is necessary to start.

This is because many affiliate programs are already supporting their affiliates with ready made marketing material, including graphics for your website, sales letters, banners, sometimes follow up email for your autoresponder and so on.

You are taking just a minimal risk.

As an affiliate marketer, you don’t have any long term binding agreements with anyone, so if you find that the product is a time or money waster, just drop it and restart with a better one.

You can start small and part time and increase your income gradually.

The main benefit of being an affiliate marketer is that you can increase your income and make a profit even working part time. As with any enterprise “you get what you put”, so you’ll need extra resources to get the most. However if you are in a tight budget you can just start low, and then increase gradually as your success increases.

So, affiliate marketing is probably the simplest online business available today on the net. You can do it part time, with a tight budget and from your home.

Pay Per Click Affiliate Programs: The Easiest Way To Online Money

Pay per click affiliate programs have been around on the internet for many years, but only after the emergence of the popular Google AdSense, pay per click affiliate programs people have known their importance and earning potential.

How does a pay per click affiliate program work?

Generally a small ad resides on your website and when someone visiting your website clicks on the ad the website owner get paid a portion of the ad revenue the advertiser is spending on that ad.

As far as Google AdSense is concerned the only criteria to get started to earn, is the need for quality and original content. The basic criteria behind this is that if you have good quality content, then over a period of time you will definitely build traffic just like "honey bees". Also Google being the most visited search engine already had a massive network of advertisers.

But still the main aspect of success with PPC affiliate programs is very clear, "learn to build website traffic first". Getting your website approved in any program is easy but if there are no visitors to click on the ads you won't get paid. By traffic I don't mean "hits" that have been generated by some robots, but real visitors who will read the content on your website and probably "click" on the ad.

Many good ebooks are available today that show you how to increase the probability of visitors clicking on the ads commonly known as CTR (click through rate) using ad placements, ad colors, font colors, web page layouts, locations of ads on the web pages also readymade templates. These are all good and easy techniques that can dramatically increase your earnings, but still the main question remains unanswered, "website traffic in the form of unique visitors", where are they?

All those who are earning good revenues with PPC programs such as Google AdSense have one thing in common, they are very good in building traffic, and then using this traffic they go ahead a step to analyze the behavior of visitors on their websites where ads have been placed. This gives them an extra edge over those who are still struggling to make money online.

So PPC affiliate programs have a lot of earning potential but only if done the right way. There are many ways to building traffic to your website some 100% free, some paid, some short term(instant), some long term. So a careful analysis of you abilities can help you get started immediately in generating good revenue using PPC affiliate programs.

Affiliate Program Update

The value and importance of websites are determined by the amount of the internet traffic they command and attract. These are the websites that were visited the most and where people spend much time browsing. Consequently, these are also websites that are valuable to online advertisers. Since these websites have frequent visitors, advertisements placed on these sites have a bigger audience. However, paying entire websites just to post a banner costs advertisers much. This forced them to look for other online marketing options. Thus, the popularity of affiliate programs soared because of this new development.

An *affiliate program* or network is simply an advertising tactic wherein advertisers offer individual webmasters payment in exchange for internet traffic. These programs have several advantages for advertisers. First, they are relieved of the hassles of looking for related content among different websites. They are saved of the effort and time in reading and browsing through sites just to find a suitable banner location. This is a necessary evil because their banner won't make sense if posted in a site with totally different topics. Second, affiliate programs increase response rates between websites. These benefit both the advertisers and their affiliates. The affiliate sites direct traffic to the advertisers by linking and vice versa.

Since affiliate programs contribute much to the growth of businesses, it is an essential move to keep them updated and current. The following are some ways by which advertisers and webmasters can improve their affiliate programs. Be reminded that these are just for improvement. It is also suggested that advertisers use other marketing strategies in tandem with affiliate programs.

First, maximize the potential of Exit windows. Some affiliate sites have visitors after only a few minutes. This frequency can be observed through logs in their web statistics. Web statistics show that people ignore or close pop-ups more quickly when these appear at the website's homepage. Presenting pop-up advertisements as people are signing off is a great way to gain commission on lost traffic.

Second, use pop-up windows with cookies. Pop-ups are annoying according to most internet users, especially if they appear every time they click on something. Some even say that annoying pop-ups are reasons enough to leave a site. This results in lost traffic. Alleviate this problem by using cookies. With cookies, pop-up ads will appear only on the users' first visits. On their return, the cookies will be recognized by the scripts. Pop-ups will not open because the users have been identified as frequent visitors.

Third, hide your links. This does not mean hiding them completely but camouflaging them by adding simple codes. Most people avoid clicking on pronounced links because they don't want to be directed to another site selling *celebrity bathing suits*. Cautious users also avoid links because of online security reasons. Camouflaged links have more potential in attracting users to clicking.

Fourth, never underestimate the power of the printed word. Yep, you don't need to limit your promotions to online marketing. Print business cards and hand them to prospective clients. This is also an efficient way to be within the reach of your clients even when they are offline. Promotions and advertising are so much better if used as partners.

Fifth, use inline frames. With their innovative features, they maintain site traffic while hiding affiliate links. Thus, there is no need to redesign whole sites just to accommodate a few banners and links. Advertisers and webmasters of affiliate sites are benefit from increased internet traffic for minimal effort.

Lastly, use colors and lots of it. People are growing tired of the black, white, and silver scheme of the New Wave trend. Make your website outrageous with stunning but complementary colors. Be reminded that there is no need to be garish. Another option is to provide visitors coloring pages with your URL. These are especially good if you cater to a suitable audience. Your site becomes popular and are still promoted offline.

Affiliate programs and networks great advertising tools. Aside from advertisement, these affiliate programs also promote networking. However, if you plan to use them, better make it a point to be updated about current online marketing trends. In the arena of internet marketing, those who are more innovative and interesting get the most customers.

Make Money Selling Other People's Products: Affiliate Marketing

You can make so much money selling and promoting other people’s products and services. Affiliate marketing is becoming more popular everyday. My success as an affiliate marketer has been centered in the online poker field. In 2005 I was one of the top affiliates for PacificPoker.com. I am also an affiliate for eBay and several poker product websites.

PacificPoker.com offered a generous affiliate payout. Most online poker rooms and online casinos have affiliate programs. PacificPoker.com paid me $200.00 for every person I sent through their online doors that made a minimum deposit of $50.00. I made over $100,000 last year from this affiliate program alone.

The best way to get started as an affiliate is to visit CommisionJunction. They list thousands of websites that want people like you to sell their products or services. The setup process is simple. And all you have to do is promote and sell. The website you are an affiliate for handles everything else, payments, charge backs, shipping etc. You are tracked through a code and you generally get a percentage of each sale you helped to initiate. Whether you are referring to poker site or selling Ipods as an affiliate marketer, the key to success is finding creative ways to promote. I created a simple website in Microsoft Frontpage. I sold a poker e-book I wrote and poker products as an affiliate.

Some very useful affiliate resources:+

This is the commission you can earn for referring a paying customer to ClickBank to purchase that product.

* CBEngine (an excerpt from the CBEngine site)

CBENGINE is the best tool available if you promote and sell ClickBank marketplace products!

How I was Successful:

Most affiliate marketers advertise their websites using Pay Per Click advertising like Google Adwords. The problem is Pay Per Click companies like Google Adwords don’t allow people to place Pay Per Click ads that lead to an online poker room or casino (gambling site). They actually spider your site to verify no links lead to a gambling site.

So I got creative. I removed ALL links to gambling sites from my website. I then put them in my e-book which I sold in pdf format. The result- I was able to indirectly advertise as an affiliate for PacficPoker.com using Pay Per Click advertising when no one else could (or knew how to!). My Pay Per Click costs were dirt cheap because there was so little competition (All other poker/casino affiliates gave up because they were not permitted to link to gambling sites). Result over 4000 e-books sold and over 250 referrals to PacificPoker.com !

Be creative

Affiliate Marketing: The Wheel Works Well

Sometimes there is a need for improvement and overhaul. At other times, there is simply an advantage to be gained via refinement.

Consider two aspects of the early automobile. Steam engine cars were among the first commercially available vehicles. In time, however, the development of the gasoline-based internal combustion engine made it obvious that a major change made sense. The change was made and puffs exhaust began to replace clouds of steam.

Even though the power plant was completely changed and many aspects of the car where altered in the transition, the wheels stayed the same. There was no compelling reason to significantly alter the wheels.

Even today, the wheel remains remarkably similar to those cars of yesteryear. They are still round. They are still attached at the axle. The materials and construction have been refined over time, but even a century's worth of change to the wheel is insignificant compared to the replacement of steam engines with gas.

You may be wondering what this has to do with affiliate marketing. The answer is simply. There may be some things in the industry and in your business that could benefit from a complete change. Go ahead and fix them. The wheels work well, though, you can leave them alone.

In other words, there is no need to reinvent every aspect of the business. That can be a bitter pill for some aggressive and tenacious internet marketers to accept, but it is true. Does compiling a good list and selling to that list work? Absolutely. Thus, you can think of ways to refine it but you shouldn't consider its wholesale replacement. After all, it works.

It is incumbent upon every affiliate marketer to recognize what is working and where problems lie. Finding and repairing problems is an essential skill. Knowing when something is a real problem requiring a complete makeover and when it is a simply a matter of making a small improvement is another.

The smart affiliate marketer will learn from experience. He or she will carefully watch and will interact with more successful veteran marketers and will begin to develop an eye for what really works just fine the way it is and what might require a significant adjustment.

That same affiliate marketer will understand that sometimes you do need to rip the entire engine from the machine and start all over, but he or she will also remember that there is no compelling reason to reinvent the wheel.

Internet marketers tend to be quick thinkers with quite a few ideas and that can be both a virtue and a curse. Their quick wits are what drive them to success. Those same quick wits can also become a small voice in the ear whispering for the reinvention of the wheel. Learning when to overhaul and when to tinker is essential to any affiliate marketer.

One Sure Way To Make It With Affiliate Programs

Making and producing a steady online income is the quest of thousands of would-be entrepreneurs, but in today's economy it has become more of an obsession.

There are so many offers to join a supportive affiliate program for just about every imaginable product but what is the best way to actually see a return for your time and consideration?

To really see a profit that is well worth your time, it's important to have realistic goals, and with any business venture you must set up your business and expect to learn as you grow your business. I was no overnight success but patience and persistence have paid off.

I personally recommend Clickbank as a great starting hub for your opportunity to make a few steady dollars, and as you grow your business you will soon see this becomes a real staple to your handsfree source of steady income.

One very lucrative source of income is Google's Adsense Program, not only is this handsfree, it's also a totally free resource to invest your time and advertising is completely within anyone's budget, whatever your budget may be.

The key to really boosting your revenue online is to diversify your business platform by pooling several resources from which to market and profit. If you only sold socks, summertime would see you living a little too lean during the summer months. So what if you sold sandals and socks? This was a very basic suggestion but I just want you to understand that in order to make your business adapt to not only seasons, but your audience as well.

Staying ahead of the crowd in what you offer is also very important. If you can be attentive to just released products, this will entice your buyers as well. Clickbank and Commision Junction are good at informing you of what is selling and what has just been released or offered for the first time.

Regardless of your spendable cash outlay to try your hand at online income producing, there is a vast assortment of affiliate programs that cost zero dollars to begin and you can advertise with a budget that you control. I will say that using free advertising resources will show the weakest return for your time but if that's where your budget will afford you right now, to get started, it's still well worth getting your learning curve under way.

It's also advisible to find small niche market's where you'll find some handsome returns for your time. Looking for specialty items and making a big splash in advertising often perks your consumer's attention and they know that if they don't act on your advertising they may not find it elsewhere. This is where you can capitalize on your audience in a way that will reward you quickly.

Before I get too far ahead of the would-be entrepreneurs, it's imeprative to explain that you need to be able to accept online debit and credit cards. Paypal and Paydotcom are my personal favorites. There is no charge to set up these accounts and you will need them countless times to set up your means of getting paid. They charge only after a sale and a very small percentage of each sale, so there is never a case where you pay a fee without producing a sale. I keep stressing low cost start-up tips to ensure that your ramp up to any business venture will be a positive one. It's just as important to manage your investment cost as it is to know what to sell.

If you are totally new to online business, I will tell you this with great sincerity, people buy information like it was popcicles on a hot August Day! There in lies your best tip from this writer. When people want to know something, when do they want to get an answer? Immediately! if not sooner. I get so many emails about where is my instant download. This is usually the case where a customer is so excited to get what they ordered that they forget to read the purchase instructions. To assure them that you will take care of them puts the real business owner feeling within you and you will be more than happy to assist them.

To get an idea of what to sell and how to diversify your business for maximum results, I would suggest that you visit my homepage and find your niche and go for it!

Free traffic vs. Extra Revenue - Earning From PPC Search Engines

by Krzysztof Wojtowicz

What are the Search Engines?

A Search Engine is special database-driven web site designed to index and categorize internet addresses. Search Engines focus to help people to find information stored on the Web.

There are four basic types of Search Engines: Crawler-based (automatic), Human-powered Directories, Meta and PPC (Pay-Per-Click).

Although most of the Search Engines that operates today shall be classified as Hybrid Search Engines because it has become extremely common for two or three types of gathering and ranking results to be utilized for presenting them on results pages to the end user.

How the PPC Search Engines work?

PPC Search Engines create listings and rate them based on a bid amount the web site owner (advertiser) is willing to pay for each click directed from that Search Engine. Advertisers bid against each other to receive higher ranking for a specific keyword or phrase. The highest bidder for a certain keyword or phrase will have their site ranked #1 in the Pay-Per-Click Search Engine results followed by the second and third highest bidder, up to hundreds or even thousands, for the same keyword or phrase. Due to bidding process required to get your site ranked, PPC Search Engines are also known as Pay-For-Placement Search Engines, as the ads will appear prominently on the results pages based on the dollar amount (bid) you will agree to pay for each click.

Affiliate Programs and PPC Search Engines:

Most affiliate programs only pay when a sale is made or a lead delivered after one of visitor’s clicks through from your site. Depending on the program, your web site content and traffic target, earnings may be slightly different.

The reason why you should consider joining a PPC Search Engine affiliate program is that it is much easier to earn from PPC Search Engines than other affiliate programs. You will earn from your visitor’s click-thru’s to an advertisers site and not per sale or action.

Plus PPC Search Engine affiliate programs can very well collaborate with your existing web site’s content or ventures.

Resourceful of your web site:

With PPC Search Engine affiliate program you will be able to profit from visitor’s who are not interested in your product or service and more likely they would leave your site and never come back. Providing those with an opportunity to search the Web and find the service or product they are looking for will not only earn you commission but also will build your site’s brand recognition as a valuable resource. The visitor who finds what he/she needs on your website will more likely come back and review your services more carefully, eventually will be back to search the web for other products.

Key benefits: extra money or “Free” targeted traffic:

As you should have noticed PPC Search Engine affiliate program is an easy way for you to generate additional revenue. When a visitor on your site does a search in the PPC Search Engine and clicks on the advertiser bided listing, the advertisers account will then get deducted for that click. Depending on the Search Engine, you will be compensated with from 30% up to 80% of the advertiser’s bid amount.

PPC Search Engine affiliate program shall not be only considered as additional source of income, since it also can help you to promote your own site. Most programs allow you to spend your commission for advertising with them instantly with no minimum earning requirement. This is the most effective method to exchange your raw visitors for targeted surfers who will more likely purchase your product or service.

PPC Search Engine affiliate program integration:

PPC Search Engines usually have a ready-to-use suit of affiliate tools that you can easily integrate to your web site. The most common tools are search boxes, banners, text links and 404 error pages. Many Search Engines utilize custom solutions and provide with a white-label affiliate program, which enables you, with only few lines of code, to integrate remotely-hosted Co-branded Search Engine to your website.

Also referring your webmaster friends to the engine will grant you a lifetime commission for your 2nd tier earnings or deposits.

4 Common Mistakes New Affiliate Marketers Make

by Alden Smith

I am sure everyone has heard the pros and cons of affiliate marketing. On the one hand, you need no product to sale, the affiliate manager provides you with promotional tools, and sometimes even a website to promote. Likewise, when you market a product through an affiliate marketer, then the customer, along with his contact information, belongs to the affiliate manager, and you have no way to make contact and add the person to your mailing list. We have all heard of the great success of people like Rosalind Gardner and others who have made small fortunes affiliate marketing, and want to repeat that success in our own businesses. Affiliate marketing should only be one of the tools in an internet marketer's arsenal, and if handled properly, can be extremely lucrative.

It is very true that affiliate marketing can be financially rewarding. Affiliate marketers who have stuck to their promotions, optimized for the best success, and market their wares in a forward thinking manner are making great rewards for their efforts. Lifestyles have changed, and people are able to get some of the things that they want and need through affiliate marketing. Although affiliate marketing can be very lucrative, there is no easy way to do it and be successful.

What makes on affiliate marketer stand out head and shoulders from the rest, while so many struggle day to day for pennies? The answer probably lies in the fact that so many make mistakes from lack of knowledge than anything else. Affiliate marketing is not just about promoting a marketer's product through his website, and sitting back and watching the money flow in. First and foremost, the new affiliate marketer must know the market, and be aware of his potential customers.

Discovering the most common mistakes new affiliate marketers make is the first step in the process of being successful in affiliate marketing. Certainly, there are do's and don't involved in a successful business approach. The most common mistake in this business of affiliate marketing concerns the principles involved in your business. And one must also be well aware of search engine optimization in particular. Here are 4 ways to learn what is needed to be successful in affiliate marketing.

1. The best way to promote an affiliate product is through advertising. That is why it is so important to carefully study the search engines, and how they work. Learning and using knowledge of search engines is probably the most important feature of affiliate marketing. the engines find the relevant content, and that content must be yours.

2. Don't overdo it on your affiliate site with banners, flashy graphics and content that is not relevant to the product. If you must use banners, then provide plenty of relevant content along with it. Your job here is to inform. do not confuse your customer that is looking for a solution with irrelevant content and distracting graphics. Instead, give him the information he has come to look for.

3. Give the customer options. Having only one solution on a well constructed page leaves money on the table. Offer more than one solution to the problem. Just be sure that you keep the content relevant. In other words, do not put affiliate information about spyware and how you can cure the customer's problems on a page with a product for acne!

4. There is also the problem of beginning affiliates trying to promote too many products at once. Your object is to give the customer what he has come for, in possibly several tightly associated products, but not give him so much choice that he leaves the page confused or overwhelmed with your presentation. Ultimately,. the customer must make the choice of what he will buy.

Ultimately, the new affiliate marketers who fail will be the ones who do not exert enough effort into the marketing strategy. Be sure to have a step by step plan in place before ever beginning the process of affiliate marketing. There is really no other way to be successful in this competitive market.

One sure way to make it with affiliate programs

by Jim Wilson

Top 3 Ways To Boost Your Affiliate Commissions Overnight

by Stanley Tang

The ideal world of affiliate marketing does not require having your won website, dealing with customers, refunds, product development and maintenance. This is one of the easiest ways of launching into an online business and earning more profits. Assuming you are already into an affiliate program, what would be the next thing you would want to do? Double, or even triple, your commissions, right? How do you do that? Here are some powerful tips on how to boost your affiliate program commissions overnight.

1. Know the best program and products to promote. Obviously, you would want to promote a program that will enable you to achieve the greatest profits in the shortest possible time. There are several factors to consider in selecting such a program. Choose the ones that have a generous commission structure. Have products that fit in with your target audience. And that has a solid track record of paying their affiliate easily and on time. If you cannot seem to increase your investments, dump that program and keep looking for better ones. There are thousands of affiliate programs online which gives you the reason to be picky. You may want to select the best to avoid losing your advertising dollars. Write free reports or short ebooks to distribute from your site. There is a great possibility that you are competing with other affiliates that are promoting the same program. If you start writing short report related to the product you are promoting, you will be able to distinguish yourself from the other affiliates. In the reports, provide some valuable information for free. If possible, add some recommendations about the products. With ebooks, you get credibility. Customers will see that in you and they will be enticed to try out what you are offering.

2. Collect and save the email addresses of those who download your free ebooks. It is a known fact that people do not make a purchase on the first solicitation. You may want to send out your message more than six times to make a sale. This is the simple reason why you should collect the contact information of those who downloaded your reports and ebooks. You can make follow-ups on these contacts to remind them to make a purchase from you. Get the contact information of a prospect before sending them to the vendor's website. Keep in mind that you are providing free advertisement for the product owners. You get paid only when you make a sale. If you send prospects directly to the vendors, chances are they would be lost to you forever. But when you get their names, you can always send other marketing messages to them to be able to earn an ongoing commission instead of a one-time sale only. Publish an online newsletter or Ezine. It is always best to recommend a product to someone you know than to sell to a stranger. This is the purpose behind publishing your own newsletter. This also allows you to develop a relationship based on trust with your subscribers. This strategy is a delicate balance between providing useful information with a sales pitch. If you continue to write informative editorials you will be able to build a sense of reciprocity in your readers that may lead them to support you by buying your products.

3. Ask for higher than normal commission from merchants. If you are already successful with a particular promotion, you should try and approach the merchant and negotiate a percentage commission for your sales. If the merchant is smart, he or she will likely grant your request rather than lose a valuable asset in you. Keep in mind that you are a zero-risk investment to your merchant; so do not be shy about requesting for addition in your commissions. Just try to be reasonable about it. Write strong pay Per Click ads. PPC search engine is the most effective means of advertising online. As an affiliate, you can make a small income just by managing PPC campaigns such as Google AdWords and Overture. Then you should try and monitor them to see which ads are more effective and which ones to dispose of.

Try out these strategies and see the difference it can make to your commission checks in the shortest of time.

Start Making Money with Affiliate Programs - Start a Home Based Business

If you have been longing to start a business online you may be coming across terms you've never heard before. You may also have found the opportunities available are overwhelming. Where do you begin?

AFFILIATE PROGRAMS - EASY START

Affiliate programs may be the easiest online business to start running. Why?

With any online business you must have a product or service to sell. First you must create this product or service and then you must be able to fill orders.

Selling your own product or service also means creating a website, learning how to write ad copy, setting up a marketing plan, being able to accept payments online and obviously doing the work. If you're selling a physical product then you will need to make or buy the item, package it and pay for shipping costs. If you provide a service than you will likely have to start by doing free jobs to build your credibility and then when you are charging for your service you are still limited by how much work you can actually handle.

THE MAGIC OF AFFILIATE PROGRAMS

Affiliate programs are a great way to get started in an online business. In fact there are even 'Super Affiliates' who are making fabulous incomes from affiliate programs. I absolutely recommend you buying the 'Super Affiliates Handbook' before you spend time trying to make money with Affiliate Programs on your own. It will save you a huge learning curve and teach you how to make a lot money utilizing some very unique marketing techniques. It is by far the best book I have read on the subject!

SO, WHAT ARE AFFILIATE PROGRAMS?

Affiliate programs allow you to sell another company's service or product and make a commission on every sale or lead. You do not even need to build a website or handle the transaction. Your job is to drive traffic (customers) to your affiliate link.

An affiliate link is a special URL code that will identify customers coming to the company's site from your advertising. It will likely be the website address with a code attached to the end.

Some affiliate programs also have tiers. That means if someone who is interested in SELLING the product comes through your link and signs up you will also get a small percentage of THEIR earnings.

HOW DO I CHOOSE A PROGRAM?

You should research the popularity of some of your interests. Try to determine if people are buying that product or service online. There are many sources for finding that information including free ones such as the Overture keyword tool.

When you have found an area that is popular then type the subject along with 'affiliate program' into your search engine and see which programs have services or products for that area. You can also use an affiliate program directory.

When you have found a program that looks interesting you should read the terms of the program. Make sure that pay outs are not based on a high commission earning or you may never see your money. Also try to choose programs with high commission rates. Often you will find ebooks and downloadable software has the highest rates as there is no physical product to make or ship. If you are satisfied with the terms then you need to sign up - usually a simple process.

START MARKETING

The reason affiliate programs are so great for beginners is that you only need to focus on marketing - not making - your product.

Many affiliate programs have information on how to market and give you tools such as banners, product feeds and more. You can also look for other information on marketing including writing articles, creating pay-per-click campaigns, commenting in online forums etc. As you gain experience marketing you will make adjustments to your selling and start creating a wonderful income!

How To Avoid Being A Victim of Link Theft

All of us yearn for just and fair treatment. Unfortunately fair is not always the case on the internet business. This is very true to linking. How many websites do you know that don’t play the internet game fairly? When you have agreed to exchange links, they trick you into believing they have linked to your website when in fact, they haven’t.

Identify Link Theft

This trick is what webmasters call the link theft. But not all lost links should be thrown out to link theft. There are cases when your website’s link is lost in a particular page because of online accidents. It is a fact, however, that most cases of lost links or not beneficial links are due to link theft. So in all ways, learn how to avoid link theft. Here are some tips to identify whether or not a particular website is a link thief and what to do to avoid it:

Request For Your Link’s URL Location

Before you link to a particular site requesting link from your website, ask them first about your link’s URL location. You have to do this because some websites forget (or intentionally forget) to give your website a link back if you have already given them a link to their website.

• Link Robbers Can Deceive

Check whether your link on a particular web page is spiderable or not. This is because some websites trick you into believing your link is already live but in fact it’s not working right. You can do this by clicking on “View Source Code” of the page that carries your website’s link. Check whether your link follows the standard text link. The standard text link is created using this format:

a href=”http://www.yourdomainname.com/” target=”_blank>Anchor Text

Some format like the one below is not spiderable by the search engines.

onclick="javascript:newWindow('http://www.yourdomain.com.’)”>Anchor Text

• Check If The Link Will Redirect

How can you check whether your link will just redirect to the same website when clicked? Try pointing your mouse’s cursor on your link and check the text that appears on the status bar of your web browser. What should appear on the status bar is the url of your website on this format:

http://www.yoursite.com

Format like the one below means the link will redirect to the same website:

http://www.sitedomain.com/page.html”

• Dynamically Generated Link Pages

Avoid linking on a dynamically generated link page. How will you identify a dynamically generated link page? If it looks like this, then it’s a dynamically generated link page. The search engines wont be able to read pages like this.

http://www.domainname.com/links/index.php?&brbf=aw

There are a number of thieves online. Don’t be one of them and don’t be a victim of any of them. Guard the benefits of your links by following these tips and ensure a fair internet linking game!

Add Clickbank Products to your Site or Blog via RSS for Free!

If you’ve been marketing products on the web, you should know all about ClickBank. One of biggest complaints I get about ClickBank is their lack of tools for the affiliate marketers who promote via their own websites or blogs.

As a result, a few entrepreneurs have developed cgi platforms that build you a “ClickBank Mall”. For the most part, these are good solutions, but it comes with an out of pocket expense to you. Another problem I see with the ClickBank Mall solutions is that they are a complete solution. In other words, the site is built from a generic template. This is not a good solution for those of us who want to incorporate ClickBank products into our own designs.

One FREE solution to this is by harnessing an RSS feed generated by Ambatch. Their CB RSS Feeds generator allows you to create specific product listings that can been added to your existing websites.

In order to get started, you obviously need a Clickbank account. Register Here

You will also need to sign up with Ambatch. Register Here

Once registered, you will automatically be taken to the CB RSS Feed generator page.

You will be show the following options:

1) Select All “product categories”

2) Select By Branch

3) A list of the current Clickbank categories, with the ability to show the sub-categories

4) A keywords text entry box

5) A dropdown to determine how many products to display

6) A dropdown to determine how often your feed will update

The first two options, and the keywords text area are optional when creating your feed.

For example, to create a feed that display products from the Business to Business category, you would need to click on the checkbox next to this category. Next, choose how many products to list. Finally, choose how often you want the feed to update. To create this feed, you would click on the “Create XML Feed” button. A new window will open that displays your newly created feed URL.

To add the product list to your website, you will need an XML parsing program or RSS reader. I will leave this part up to you to figure out.

When the feed has been added, you site should now display the list of products based on the criteria you entered in the feed generation process. When a visitor clicks on one of the product links, they are taken to the product’s landing page. Your ClickBank Affiliate ID is automatically passed to the vendor so you can get credit for the sale. A nice feature of the feed link is that your Ambatch account is updated so you can track which product links have been clicked. This will allow you to tell which products are selling or at least generating interest.

The click tracking function is useful because it allows you determine which products to market via other avenues such as Adwords.

Another useful feature of the Ambatch CB RSS Feeds tool is its ability to generate multiple XML feeds. You can create specific category feeds and place them on your site in the appropriate categories. Thus, you can essentially create your own CB mall for no cost!

Cash and Pay-per-click Affiliate Programs

Have you ever wondered what exactly is up with affiliate? This informative report can give you an insight into everything you've ever wanted to know about affiliate.

Millions are paying to get a ride on the Information Super Highway everyday. Now, it is widely known that the Internet is an accessible resource of many income-generating activities. Whether you belong to a private sales company or you are just interested in internet marketing, PPC affiliate programs can be a powerful venue to make money from the Internet. A partnership with an affiliate merchant is a win-win situation for the merchant and the affiliate: sales are soaring because of exposure and traffic while the affiliate is earning good cash.

To make things much simpler: the affiliate merchant provides a strip of advertisement and pays you when someone clicks on the ad's link. You can get a commission of $0.10 to $0.30 for every click, but it sometimes it can go higher depending on your merchant affiliate. Sometimes, merchants require a quota ($1.4 for every 1000 clicks). Plus, you can get discounts from your merchant affiliates if you happen to like their products too. You can just kick back and relax while your website is generating cash. Sounds easy, doesn't it?

What is PCC Affiliate Program?

PPC means pay-per-click, wherein you get in partnership with an affiliate company that literally pays you for every click. There are actually two types of PCC affiliate programs - those who pay a commission based on the number of clicks and the other based on the sales. The pay-per-click scheme is much more popular than pay-per-lead because the affiliate gets paid by just clicking the ad, regardless of whether the visitor buys from the affiliate merchant or not. Plus the chances of a visitor purchasing something from the affiliate merchant are not really that high.

In choosing an affiliate program, read the fine print carefully - some pay-per-click programs get the ratio of the number of people who went to your site and the actual people who clicked on the ad. If you have a heavily targeted website, this can hurt your earnings.

How do I start?

Of course, you need to have a website. Depending on your target audience, choose the best affiliate merchant that is most related to your topic. For example, your website is about Carpentry then you can search for affiliate programs that sell tools used in carpentry.

However, if you don't have a website, that's not a problem. You can put up a content site about absolutely anything under the sun like 'Taking Care of Dogs' or 'Decorating your own Home.' But wait, its not over yet. We are faced by a dilemma - on how to increase traffic! You first need to get internet surfers to see your website, then the ad.

How do I increase my traffic?

First, design your website in such a way that it will attract internet users. A user-friendly site is always recommended so that the customers will know which one to click. Take into consideration the look and feel of the advertisement. If it doesn't look professional, most likely, users will just ignore it. Place the ad on a strategic location - one where users can see it clearly. Visibility of the ad is always important.

Another way is to post a link to your website in forums, web communities, ezine articles or bulletin boards. However, this method requires a lot of effort - that defeats your purpose of getting easy money in the first place! The key is to do something once and forget about it. It's like putting your business on autopilot. To maintain you pay-per-click business, be sure to track down site activity, so you are updated on how much money you are making.

Can I make more money?

If you think you can go to the next level, you can try a two-tier affiliate program. This gives you the power to recruit affiliates. Other than the money you get from your website's clicks, you will also get a percentage of what your affiliate generates. Some companies give 30% to a soaring 50% commission on all referral sales.

Tips for Choosing an Affiliate Company

by Carlette Moore

No doubt, if you are reading this article, you are either interested in working with affiliate companies, or you have already found success. I sincerely hope it is the later!

There is so much to learn about affiliate marketing, that is can certainly be overwhelming and, in many cases, cause the pursuer to throw-in-the-towel. I have been to that point myself, but decided to delve a little deeper, as an out-of-control train going downhill.

It is amazing how quickly we can learn when we put our minds to it! I read everything I could find on various avenues of marketing: search engine keywords, indexing, tracking codes, blogging, forums, classified ads, split-testing, conversion tracking, etc.

"The internet has gone crazy!" I thought. It seemed everyone and their brother was now marketing on the internet. The truth, though, is that the advertisers and marketers are a small percentage compared to the 2 billion on the net. The average success rate for online advertisers is 1 in 10. I don't say that to discourage you, but, hopefully, make you decide to be the 1 that does succeed.

Here are a few tips I found from free online courses, that might be of help in choosing affiliate companies and products. (Most of these ideas are from Chris Carpenter, though written in my own words.)

(1) The two biggest affiliate programs are "clickbank" and "Commission Junction." They provide access to thousand of different products. There is a fee to join, but no monthly charge after that.

(2) Try to find affiliate products that have a high commission rate. Since you're using your time anyway, you might as well make $20 over $5.

(3) Look for affiliate programs that offer a commission on referred buys. That way when a customer you referred buys again, you get paid.

(4) Choose what search engines are best to use. Do a study of their reviews to see what others think about them.

(5) Try to find an affiliate program that is currently popular. (Obviously, surveys and type-at-home jobs are very popular.)I would recommend looking for something that is both popular and interesting to you. If you can find another nitch, your ad won't be smothered just trying to reach to surface.

(6) Make sure the affiliate product you choose has a professional website with a convincing sales pitch. If the ad didn't grab your attention when you first read it, look for one that does.

(7) Choose affiliate products offering a money-back guarantee. This seem to draw traffic and sets the buyer them at ease.

(8) Choose an affiliate program that pays regularly every 2 weeks, rather than waiting for months.

(9) Start out focusing on ONE company or program. You will burn out quickly with several irons in the fire. Once that is up and running, move on to the next one.

(10) If you already have a website, choose a company that complements your website.

I hope these tips will be as helpful in on online pursuits. Things of valuable often require perseverence.

Sincerely

Carlette Moore

A Day In The Life Of An Affiliate Marketer

Being in the affiliate marketing business is not that hard now with the internet at your disposable. It is much easier now compared to the days when people have to make use of the telephones and other mediums of information just to get the latest updates on the way their program is coming along.

So with technology at hand, and assuming that the affiliate is working from home, a day in his or her life would sound something like this...

Upon waking up and after having breakfast, the computer is turned on to check out new developments in the network. As far as the marketer is concerned there might be new things to update and statistics to keep track on.

The site design has to be revised. The marketer knows that a well-designed site can increase sign ups from visitors. It can also help in the affiliate's conversion rates.

That done, it is time to submit the affiliate program to directories that lists affiliate programs. These directories are means to attract people in joining your affiliate program. A sure way of promoting the affiliate program.

Time to track down the sales you are getting from your affiliates fairly and accurately. There are phone orders and mails to track down. See if they are new clients checking the products out. Noting down the contact information that might be a viable source in the future.

There are lots of resources to sort out. Ads, banners, button ads and sample recommendations to give out because the marketer knows that this is one way of ensuring more sales. Best to stay visible and accessible too.

The affiliate marketer remembered that there are questions to answer from the visitors. This has to be done quickly. Nothing can turn off a customer than an unanswered email.

To prove that the affiliate is working effectively and efficiently, inquiries would have to be paid more attention on. Nobody wants to be ignored and customers are not always the most patient of all people. Quick answer that should appear professional yet friendly too.

Is everything making sense so far? If not, I'm sure that with just a little more reading, all the facts will fall into place.

In the process of doing all the necessities, the marketer is logged on to a chat room where he or she interacts with other affiliates and those under that same program. This is where they can discuss things on how to best promote their products.

There are things to be learned and it is a continuous process. Sharing tips and advices is a good way of showing support. There may be others out there wanting to join and may be enticed by the discussion that is going on. There is no harm in assuming what opportunities ahead.

The newsletters and ezines were updated days ago, so it is time for the affiliate marketer to see if there are some new things happening in the market. This will be written about in the marketer's publication to be distributed to the old and new customers.

These same publications are also an important tool in keeping up to date with the newly introduced products. The marketer has put up a sale and promotion that customers may want to know about. Besides, they have to keep up with the deadline of these sales written in the publications.

It is that time to show some appreciation to those who have helped the marketer in the promotions and sale increase. Nothing like mentioning the persons, their sites and the process they have done that made everything worked.

Of course, this will be published in the newsletters. Among the more important information that have been written already.

The marketer still has time to write out recommendations to those who want credible sources for the products being promoted. There is also time to post some comments on how to be a successful affiliate marketer on a site where there are lots of wannabees.

Two objectives done at the same time. The marketer gets to promote the product as well as the program they are in. Who knows, someone may be inclined to join.

Time flies. Missed lunch but is quite contented with the tasks done. Bed time....

Ok, so this may not be all done in a day. But then, this gives you an idea of how an affiliate marketer, a dedicated one that is, spends the marketing day.

Is that success looming in the distance or what?

Take time to consider the points presented above. What you learn may help you overcome your hesitation to take action.

Redirect Affiliate Program Links for Maximum Effectiveness

If you promote an affiliate program and are not redirecting your affiliate links, you may be missing out on traffic and commissions opportunities. Redirecting your affiliate program links helps to minimize spam filtering of your email campaigns, increase the acceptance of article submissions, build backlinks to your site, and reduce "click fear".

Minimize Spam Filtering

If you are promoting an affiliate program through email, other (unscrupulous) affiliates of the same company may be indirectly hurting the delivery rate of your messages. Email filters will block messages that contain content or links associated with spam. Even if you send your message only to subscribers who have double opted-in to your list, your messages may still be blocked if it contains a URL used by spammers.

Search Engine Optimization

Most affiliate program URLs look something like http://www.example.com/?id=123. Unfortunately, most search engines have limited or no ability to read these links.

Google(TM) warns, "If you decide to use dynamic pages (i.e., the URL contains a "?" character), be aware that not every search engine spider crawls dynamic pages as well as static pages. It helps to keep the parameters short and the number of them few." Google goes on to tell us "Don't use "&id=" as a parameter in your URLs, as we don't include these pages in our index."

Furthermore, if you are publishing your affiliate link on other sites such as blogs, forums, etc., you are missing out on the opportunity to build valuable backlinks that could increase your search engine rankings.

Article Submissions

Submitting articles to web publishers and article directories is a powerful way to build backlinks to your site. Unfortunately, many publishers and directories do not accept articles that include affiliate links. However, virtually all will accept links to your own site. By replacing your affiliate link with a link to your own site, even one that redirects to your affiliate link, you will increase the number of article submissions accepted by publishers and directories.

Reduce "Click Fear"

Thanks to those few sites on the Web that distribute adware, spyware, viruses, etc., many web users are fearful of clicking on links, especially those that look "suspicious". To the average user who has no special knowledge of the internal workings of the Web, a link that has "unusual" characters such as those in dynamic URLs (e.g. http://www.example.com/?id=123&sub=456) will appear less trustworthy than a static link.

How to Redirect Your Affiliate Program URL

There are several ways to redirect your affiliate program links. The most "search engine friendly" method is the 301 Permanent redirect with the .htaccess file. You can use this method if your site is hosted on an Apache (Linux, Unix) based server.

To create a permanent redirect, open (or create) the .htaccess file. On a single line add the following code to the file:

redirect 301 /example.html http://www.example.com/?id=123&sub=456

This code tells the server to redirect "http://www.yoursite.com/example.html" to your affiliate link "http://www.example.com/?id=123&sub=456".

Other methods of redirecting include using PHP's header() function and HTML's meta refresh.

No matter what affiliate program you're promoting, you will benefit by redirecting your links. Redirecting your affiliate links can improve the delivery rate of your email campaigns as well as increase CTR. Your articles may be more readily accepted by article directories and web publishers. Furthermore, redirecting replaces links to your merchant with valuable backlinks to your own site.

Affiliate Marketing as a Balancing Act

Being an affiliate marketer requires some real skill! Not only do you have to be a creative thinker and a great marketer, you also need to have the ability to balance critical aspects of the business. Consider some of the competing interests you must balance in order to be successful.

Focus vs. Diversity

Everyone will tell you that focused effort is a key to success. That same crowd will also proclaim that one must have diverse streams of income. That results in the need to tend to two competing interests. The two are rendered somewhat mutually exclusive by the finite nature of time--you can only do so much at once!

You don't want to stretch your focus thin by working on too many products and projects at one time. However, you cannot afford to focus exclusively on the development of just one or two income streams. Thus, you are forced to find a good compromise between the two. The location of that compromise can only be discovered through trial and error. It requires a keen level of attention as you work and a willingness to make adjustments in order to find the right spot.

Creativity vs. Reliability

The best way to make a splash is to come up with a creative means of marketing a product. Creative affiliate marketers can stumble upon some unique and highly successful ways of increasing sales. Thinking "outside the box" is a coveted skill and one that can produce awesome results. At the same time, however, there are tried and trued sales methods upon which you can count. These techniques have been used again and again and will produce sales.

You need to retain your creativity and a willingness to explore new ideas. Taking risks and adopting new perspectives could lead to a breakthrough. However, abandoning safe, but relatively productive, strategies could leave you empty-handed. The trick is to again find harmony between these competing urges. You need to know how much of the "old" to embrace and when to throw caution to the wind and try the "new."

Doing vs. Learning

One thing is certain. You can't make a sale unless you try. You have to implement and pursue means by which to get the job done. You have to be a "doer" to make it as an affiliate marketer. The nature of the playing field changes, though. New innovations come about, new strategies are discovered. Thus, you need to spend time learning, too.

This is another balancing act. Spending enough time on the work of marketing while simultaneously finding the time and energy to stay on top of the industry's developments and to learn new skills. Two more competing interests. Another need to balance.

Part of the enjoyment we can take from affiliate marketing is in its challenges. The challenging nature of the business is underlined by conundrums like these. The successful affiliate marketer must balance competing interests at every turn.
