Monetizing a website by becoming a CPA affiliate is very, very simple. You sign up with one of the 50 or so CPA Networks that are available online, drive traffic to the custom landing pages they provide, and get paid whenever a site visitor fills out and submits a form. That is really all there is to it.

A CPA network is a clearing house that brings advertisers and publishers together. The advertiser provides a custom landing page and form, pays the network commission for making it available to affiliates, and the affiliates in turn are paid for driving traffic and generating signups.

All it entails is that the visitor *request free information* and give his or her name and email address, and perhaps a physical address.

You, as the CPA affiliate, get paid *even though your site visitor has yet to buy anything*. You are getting paid for a LEAD, not a sale.

Many people have no idea how huge and lucrative lead generation is, and not a clue the kind of money that certain businesses will pay for a good lead. Things like mortgage and insurance leads, in particular, are very, very valuable, as are credit card leads. But even something as seemingly inexpensive as a cell phone ring tone can bring you a nice commission per lead. Why?

These lead purchasers are planning on maximizing the long-term value of a customer. In the case of a mortgage, one lead can generate a commission of thousands of dollars to a mortgage broker. An insurance or credit card account is worth recurring commissions potentially for many, many years. Has Google changed the rules for affiliates? For “organic” search engine optimization, not too much has immediately changed. Google has been, and still is, looking for quality content, and your affiliate site must be relevant to your particular niche. In regard to Google’s pay per click program, which we know as AdWords, much has changed for affiliates quite recently.

The important issue is to understand the new rules, and why, because Yahoo and some of the smaller pay per click programs might just follow this same path. The days of putting an affiliate page together with “tons of hyperlinks,” and little or no content are, for the most part, over.

This will only hurt those affiliates who have not adjusted to the new rules. A Day in the Life of Affiliate Marketer X

My name is "Affiliate Marketer X" and you know what?...

I know how you feel, I used to feel the same way, going to that boring J.O.B. (Just Over Broke)...., meeting a boss that don´t appreciate your job...., but the worst thing wasn´t that, no, the worst thing was that I did not have the time to spend with my family, they are one of the most important things in my life.

I was like a rat running around in circles trying to make things better, but I realize now that it was a stupid way of thinking, why?

Because, well, the answer is pretty simple: I was doing just that, "running around in circles", the answer was just in front of me..., and I couldn´t see it, in other words, I didn´t see the forest for the tree!

I become to realize that if you want to make things work in your life you have to change the way you make things, and most of the times the answer lies just in front of your nose. (doh!)

Well, what changes did I made you probably ask yourself?

Ok, here it goes, It might inspires you:

1) => De first thing I asked myself was:

What Do I Wan´t To Accomplish?...

Remember to try and to really "Do" something is completely different, why? because if you only "Try" to do something you will actually never "Do" it, a person who "Do", is someone who takes action in his life.

So start thinking about what you really want to "Do", take a paper and a pen and write down the things you want to accomplish by having an online business.

Then when you have a list of things start with, start with the most important things for you, because that is what is going to motivate you along the road. Think also about your most urgent needs.

Why are you starting an online venture as an affiliate or a home based business owner? Do you want to have some extra money? Do you want to do this full time? Do you want to be more time with your family?.... I think you get the picture.

2) => The second thing is:

Who Is Going To Do It?

Many people think that starting an online business is just setting up a domain name and a website and that the buyers will come....Wrong! And Wrong again!

You actually have to project yourself into the near future to see "Who" is actually going to do the work.

You have two options:

A) Do it yourself.

B) Hire someone.

Your decision will depend on two factors: time and money

Do you have more time then money on your hands or vice versa?

This will be a critical factor upon deciding this step.

Take some time and think about it and then take some more: Action!

3) => The Third:

When Is It Going To Be Done?

One of the biggest obstacles to success is in one word:

Procastination.

The nature of the human being is to procastinate things, we say: "Oh, I know this is important to do, but...hey! I don´t think it matters to much if I do it tomorrow!...", but reality is that when tomorrow comes, you will probably say the same thing and there you are going around in circles again...

So, stop right now thinking that way and change your way of thinking and say instead: "What can I do today to makes things different?"

And I am not talking about going to the bank and getting a loan of $100,000 dollars, no!

I am talking about those little but positive changes you can make today to make a difference in your life, i.e. right now you are taking a very important and crucial step to change things in your life and I know you want it!

How do I know it? Well, you´re still reading this right?....

4) => And the last one:

How Much Is It Going To Cost Me?

To be totally sincere, you can start a business online for under $100 dollars or less if you are willing to get your hands dirty.

In this case I specially recommend starting with affiliate programs, because you have no stock or inventory to handle.

You can set up a domain and hosting account to start with for under $20 and if you can write an honest and unbiassed review for a product you are ready and set to go.

Now, you also need visitors to your site, remember this and don´t get fooled by empty promises, if you have zero visitors you will get zero sales, it´s as simple as that.

Don´t know how to get people to your site?

Again, the money is a big factor in this game but not necessary an obstacle.

Ok, here we go:

a) Send out solo ads to ezines. b) PPC search engines c) Search Engine Optimization (SEO) d) Link Exchanges with other sites e) Traffic Exchange sites.

If you opt for the free way I recommend you starting with traffic exchange sites, but the way to use this correctly is to get people to sign up for free (they are totally free) and the you will earn traffic for their efforts.

The other methods takes a little bit more time to understand but they are definitely worth it.

Affiliate Marketers: Should You Promote that Product?

As a 'super affiliate', I set stiff criteria for how and when I choose to promote products, especially products available within the Internet and affiliate marketing niche.

First, I rarely participate in the ‘big’ product launches anymore, as many of those products (and their producers) have gone the way of the dodo bird.

Stephen Ducharme is only one example.

Do a search for his name today and in the top results are an article by Damon Zaharides titled “Stephen Ducharme Belly Flop” and a thread in Michael Green’s HowToCorp forum “Screw Stephen Ducharme Over”.

People were that mad at him for selling them a pack o’ lies.

Marketers who promoted his product had to do some serious back-pedaling to regain their subscribers’ trust.

However, breaking a trust is like breaking a porcelain container. You can glue it back together, but the cracks will always show and it may never again hold water.

Do you want to lose subscribers or your reputation as an honest broker?

I thought not.

To protect your reputation, and more importantly, do right by your customers, here are my top 6 criteria for choosing products to promote.

  1. Reputable Merchant. If Yanik Silver or Anik Singal tells me that they have a new product available, I know my customers will be properly treated and respected. These merchants have built their reputations based on quality products and excellent customer service, i.e. sound business principles.

    Likewise, there are merchants within your niche with whom you have worked that can be trusted without question.

    If you do not know a merchant, research their reputation online. Review and test their sites for attractiveness, usability and customer service responsiveness. If you have any doubts regarding their reputation, do not promote the product.

  2. Relevant High-Quality Product. Regardless of whether or not you know a merchant, review the product for quality and relevance. Will it benefit your subscribers in their work? Does it fulfill the promise made in the sales letter? Do all the features work?

    If you are unable to review the product, tell your subscriber that is the case, and explain why you feel confident to recommend the product without review. Remind them that the product comes with a guarantee if they are not satisfied.

  3. Reasonable Price. I hate the price gouging that goes on the Internet as much as anyone. If there is an existing product of similar quality available at a lower price, I do not recommend that you promote the new product. In fact, you may want to take the opportunity to do a comparative review ending with a recommendation for the lower-priced product.

  4. Low-Hype Sales Tactics. Sales letters for good products do not scream ridiculous promises.

    Regardless of merchant reputation or product quality, I recommend that you not promote products that make use of excessive hype or if the product name implies that users will achieve extraordinary results. There is a big difference between ‘How I Made X (Reasonable Sum) in One Year” and “Make X Million in X Minutes”.

    Moreover, you do not want to make surfers more skeptical than they already are.

  5. Limit Choice to Prevent Confusion. There are a million “How to Build an Online Business” books, courses and tutorials available, yet I choose to promote only a few.

    Each of those that I promote is markedly different from the others in both price and content. One might be available only online at a nice low price, while the other is a comprehensive physical product that includes manuals, DVD’s and CD recordings.

    Do not promote a new product simply because it is new. Stick to the tried and true to build your reputation as a consistent and dependable marketer.

  6. High Commission. Finally, yet importantly, you need to determine whether the commission rate is acceptable.

    Do not promote products for merchants who pay less than the going rate. For example, the standard commission rate for a conference seat is around 25%, while outstanding JV partners are offered between 33 and 50%. A merchant that pays 10% is just plain stingy. Do not reward greedy merchants. Work to become an outstanding JV partner for a merchant who respects your effort.

Use these strategies to guide your decisions every time you have the option to promote a new product. Your efforts will build and maintain your reputation as an ‘honest broker’ and frankly, nothing is more important to staying in business than your good reputation.

Affiliate Marketing Identity Theft

Identity theft is a hot topic today and the Internet is no exception. Aside from banking online and ordering via credit cards online security concerns, have you considered that your online affiliate identity might also be at risk?

The numbers vary depending upon the source quoted, but conservative estimates indicate that 10% to 40% of affiliate sales are lost. Why? Internet pirates can, and often do, steal, bypass or otherwise mutilate your affiliate link, thereby robbing you of hard-earned sales.

Are you fed up with lazy and unscrupulous people who, instead of using their misplaced energy to create something special of their own, prefer to just suck the life out of someone else's endeavors? Are there ways to stop these pirates who can spoil your online marketing efforts?

Yes, there are. One solution is called "redirecting," which simply means that you set up a domain name that will forward to the specific link you want to go to, but will not show your entire affiliate ID. The redirect will show only your domain name. Some companies offer e-mail forwarding as well, so that your e-mail contact information can also reflect your domain name.

Should this cost a lot? No. You can find a company that costs you pennies a day for their services. Several features should be considered when choosing a domain forwarding or redirect company. Ideally, the company should:

Charge a one-time set up fee for your domain name;

Offer unlimited sub-domains, which allow you to manage multiple affiliate programs from one domain name;

Offer domains that can be bookmarked, which means that every time a customer goes back to the site, they see your domain name (and you get the commission);

Optimize search engine indexing, allowing you to change the title, mega description and keyword tags for your domain name, easily and in minutes. Normal affiliate links are almost never indexed, so choose a domain provider that is designed to be indexed by all major search engines.

Do not require that you pay a monthly hosting fee or require you to buy software, ever; and,

Do not require software or technical expertise in order to use. Choose one that is user-friendly to your level of technical or software knowledge.

Finally, choose a keyword-loaded domain name that is easy to remember looks attractive and represents you in a professional, yet personal manner that suits your personality and/or what you are promoting.

Domain forwarding will take you a long way towards building a credible, trustworthy business. Good domain forwarding companies who offer most, if not all, of the benefits listed here, are worth their weight in gold.

How To Succeed As An Affiliate or Reseller

Huge amounts of advice are available about how to succeed as an affiliate or reseller of other people's products. Occasionally it helps to focus on just a few ideas or steps that can be speedily implemented. I find the following ideas useful.

Choose a niche market which sells products that you are interested in. If possible, choose one that you are passionate about. I am passionate about the self-improvement niche.

You can't lose with this niche. Even if you were to sell nothing you would learn much from the products you were attempting to sell.

I have sold quite a few copies of a fairly well known self-improvement book. It was easy to write favorable comments in the sales page for this book because it is a book which has helped me to understand my past failures and to increase my confidence for the future.

I could and still can recommend it to others with a clear conscience because I believe it will help the buyer to improve their lives. If not, they can ask for a refund which will be granted without hesitation.

I can only remember having to refund one copy of the follow up to this book because the reader did not agree with something that was written in it.

There are parts of this author's books which I do not agree with but much of what he writes can change lives for the better. Why chuck out the good with the bad? However, the refund was immediately supplied by me even though I thought the reason given for the refund was a weak one.

Another niche I am passionate about is internet marketing. The more I learn about it and apply what I learn the more interesting it gets. The possibility of making money as well is just the icing on the cake.

If you sell products in this niche with integrity, you will sell products from developers who have a great reputation or products that you have tried out or read for yourself. You will, of course, learn much from testing the products and reading the ebooks before you decide they are good enough to sell.

This reminds me of a second great key to success in affiliate and resale marketing. Only promote or sell products that are of a high quality.

It takes time and effort to ensure that you do not sell trashy products but it will be worth it in the long run as those who buy from you or at your recommendation come to trust and value your advice about which products are worth spending their hard earned money on. .

A third key step is to ensure that you build a list of people who are interested in the niche you are promoting. I am currently building a list of people who are interested in self-improvement and motivation. I am also building a second list of people who are interested in marketing on the internet.

I am building a third list of people interested in self-defence and a fourth list of people interested in religious education. I may well start a fifth list of people interested in general fitness and health. As these lists grow in size, I will be able to recommend a product that I believe in to them.

Some will buy it and others won't. As Jim Rohn might say: "That is the way the world works!"

How do you build your list? One way is to write articles like this which have a resource box at the end which refers readers to an opt in page which asks for their name and email address in exchange for free ebooks or software.

They will then receive an email asking them to confirm their desire to optin. Most will usually confirm and you can then send them a regular ezine or an email when you feel you have something worth saying.

Alternatively, if you have nothing worth saying after a week or so, you can easily discover something worth saying by studying some of the great ebooks, audios and DVD's which are easily available on the net.

Clearly, you cannot just copy what you read about. You will need to filter the ideas through your own brain and your own experience. What you then write will be as original as most writings that are promoted as original.

To sum up the three key steps described above:

Choose a niche you are passionate about. It is much easier to sell something you know something about and are already interested in. Even if you sell nothing, you may well enjoy learning from the products you are attempting to sell.

Make sure that you sell only products that you believe in yourself. This will make writing any ads or sales pages that much easier and you will sound far more convincing than if you know little about the product in question.

Start at once to build opt in lists for all the niches you are interested in. Once you have big opt in lists, you will find it much easier to interest other people to work with you on joint ventures where both of you profit and both of you can increase your own lists with people who are from someone else's list.

Good luck with your marketing. Don't be put off by the fact that there is competition. Other people are selling some of the ebooks I sell but that does not stop people from buying from me. Competition does not necessarily hold you back. You can always add bonuses to a popular product to make your offer more attractive.

How to Use Subdomains and URL Forwarding to Improve Your Web Presence

Two of the biggest problems faced by online marketers are long, hard-to-remember web addresses, and lost referrals. This article will show you how to make your affiliate links shorter and easier to advertise, as well as how to protect your referrals.

The Problem with Long Web Addresses

People have enough information to keep track of. A long web address is the last thing anyone wants to add to their list of things to remember. If you have anything more difficult than something like www.WhateverSomeWebBusinessIs.com, you can be sure to lose a large number of your customers, unless they can click on the link right away. Even so, if the link is hard to remember and your customers forget to bookmark your site, you can kiss return visits goodbye. If you’re putting a long or difficult web address on print ads, or on radio or TV, you can forget getting much of a return as well. And if you are adding ad tracking info on the end of your web address, good luck!

To be effective, a web address has to be brief and memorable.

Protecting Your Referrals

Consider this: You give a user your web address: www.SomeWebBusiness.com/affiliateID. The affiliate ID is there so you can get credit for the referral. It’s how you get paid. But for reasons that sometimes defy explanation, instead of putting in the whole address, Joe User lops off the ‘/affilateID’ part and just goes to www.SomeWebBusiness.com.

Unless the affiliate program you work with is really good about only accepting people with legitimate user ID referrals, you just lost a sale. Why? Because without the affiliate ID you won’t get credit for that referral. Even more insidious are ‘web marketers’ who look for affiliate links and user IDs and purposely substitute their own ID for yours, thus robbing you of even more income.

To protect yourself, you need to make your web address as bulletproof as possible.

The Simple Solution

So, how do you turn www.PleaseClickOnMyLinkSoIcanMakeABuck.com/and/don’t/forget/my/affiliateID into something more manageable, and protect your referrals? In a word – actually several – subdomains and URL forwarding. Good use of both can help greatly improve your online efforts.

“URL” stands for Uniform Resource Locator. It’s the address you type into your browser to surf the web. URL forwarding is the practice of using one web address to point to another. Typically, you use a less difficult address to point to a more complex one. For example, you would use www.SomeWebBusiness.com to point to your longer, more complex affiliate link. The shorter address is easier to remember, and works well both on the web and in other media where you might choose to advertise.

A subdomain, as the name suggests, is a subdivision of a larger domain. Let’s say you have an ad tracking URL you want to use to test the effectiveness of a particular campaign. The system I use generates what are called ad tracking links. Many affiliate programs do this. But here’s the problem: On top of an already long name, they’ll tack on yet another item so your ads can be tracked. So, www.AlreadyLongName.com/with/AffiliateID becomes www.AlreadyLongName.com/with/AffiliateID/andTrackingID.

Who wants to type all that in?

With a subdomain you can still use the ad tracking link without burdening or confusing your potential customers with a long name. So, let’s say I wanted to do an ad campaign for www.SomeWebBusiness.com. I would go to my domain name provider and create a subdomain called CheckOut.SomeWebBusiness.com, and I would use URL forwarding to have that subdomain ‘point’ to my more complicated ad tracking address. The one disadvantage is that the user might forget the dot between CheckOut and SomeWebBusiness.com, but still it’s much easier to use than a LONG web address.

So, how do you get a domain name and subdomains? There are plenty of domain name providers out there. The one I use is mydomains.com. They offer domain names for as low as $8.95, and the price includes subdomains and URL forwarding free of charge. If the affiliate program you use already offers you a pre-made website, then all you need is your domain name and you’re ready to go.

Here are the steps you need to follow:


Register your domain name and turn on URL forwarding according to the instructions of your provider.
Use your provider’s URL forwarding feature to point your new web address to your affiliate site.
If your provider offers stealth forwarding, DO NOT use it. This could cause your affiliate program not to see or recognize your affilliate ID. Besides, you just need the domain name as front-end promotion tool.
Create subdomains (optional) according to your provider’s instructions. Have the subdomains point to other opportunities, or to your ad tracking links.
That’s it! By having your own domain name you can create a web address that’s easy to remember, and that will protect your referrals. Plus, it gives you the added benefit of giving your business a professional look because you can direct people to a nice, neat web address instead of an unwieldy mile-long link.

Understanding The Affiliate Marketing Language

You are about to encounter a language that you have never heard before: the language of Internet Marketing, as it relates to Affiliate Marketing. It is important that you understand what it all means, to ensure that you are signing up for programs that are worth your time.

As you will learn, it is important to read the terms and conditions for affiliates. Sometimes, you will be presented with those terms before you sign up, and sometimes you will be presented with them after you sign up. But it is important that you read them, and it is important that you understand what is being said. It is also important that you understand what the following terms or abbreviations mean:

CPC: Cost per click. This relates to how much it costs for each click an ad or link receives when advertising on a CPC basis. In other words, instead of paying a flat rate for the advertisement, you would pay a certain amount of money for each click the ad receives.

PPC: Pay Per Click. This relates to CPC, where you pay for each click that your ad or link receives. Google AdWords is an example of Pay Per Click advertising.

CPA: Cost per action, or cost per acquisition. Basically, this means that you will pay each time an action is taken. The action may be a click, a sign up, or a sale. In fact, many affiliate programs also pay on a CPA basis, meaning that each time someone clicks on your link, or signs up to receive information through your link, you earn a little money. Google AdSense is an example of this.

CTR: Click Through Rate. This number is usually represented as a percentage, and it refers to the number of times your ad was clicked on, in relation to how often the ad was viewed.

CPM: Cost per thousand. The amount of money you pay for every one thousand ad impressions.

URL: Uniform Relay Link, otherwise known as a link, or a website address.

Affiliate Link: A URL or link that is assigned to you by the affiliate program. This is the link that you will promote, as it is used to track your clicks and sales.

Contextual Link or Text Link: A contextual link is a link that looks like content, because it is all text. It may be several words long.

Charge Back: This will be an important term to you. This refers to when customers cancel their orders, or have their credit card companies reverse the charges. It basically means that you lose a sale. Some affiliate programs will hold money back each pay period to cover potential charge backs/refunds, and release that money to you after a specified period.

SPAM: Unsolicited Commercial Email. This term also refers to commercial posts on forums and blogs. Most affiliate programs will have strict anti-spam regulations that you must follow.

Revenue Sharing Program: This is the same thing as an affiliate program.

Co-Branding: Some affiliate programs offer co-branding options, where your company name or logo is placed on a reseller's website, or on the product itself.

Referral Link: The same as an affiliate link.

Tracking: The method or software used to record sales, clicks, leads, and other information that has to do with your affiliate link.

HTML or HTML Code: HTML stands for Hyper Text Markup Language. This is the programming language used to build webpages. HTML code generally refers to a small portion of HTML code, such as that needed to place affiliate links or banners on your webpages.

Partner Program: This is the same thing as an affiliate program.

If you come across other terms or abbreviations that you aren't sure of the meaning of, make sure that you stop and go find out what it means before agreeing to anything or before doing anything. Not knowing can cause problems later on in your affiliate marketer career.
